Join us September 28 to send a clear message to the Governor, the Public Utilities Commission, and our elected representatives:
Minnesotans stand together to HOLD THE LINE to protect what we love and say NO to Line 3 and other pipelines that threaten our water, climate, and communities.
Opportunity: On September 28th, the Minnesota Public Utilities Commission (PUC) will hold the only Twin Cities area public hearing on whether or not to build the new Line 3 tar sands pipeline. Line 3 is proposed by Canadian company Enbridge to carry tar sands crude from Canada across northern MN and the headwaters of the Mississippi River. An existing, aging Line 3 pipeline would be abandoned. The PUC is considering whether to issue a Certificate of Need and a Routing Permit, which are the major approvals Enbridge must get before beginning construction.
Event description: Our event will start with a rally at the Capitol on Thursday, September 28 at 4:00 PM. The rally and activities will include inspiring speakers, an interfaith component, music, and of course, local food. At 5:00 PM we will march to the Public Utilities Commission hearing at the Intercontinental Hotel (about 1.3 miles). Upon arrival, everyone who wishes to speak against the project will be encouraged to sign up to testify and all will be encouraged to stay in support, and the public hearing will run from 6-9:00 PM.
Hosted by: Climate Generation, Honor the Earth, Minnesota Environmental Partnership, Minnesota Interfaith Power and Light, Minnesota Rising, MN350, Power Shift Network, Sierra Club Northstar chapter, Sunrise Movement, Young People’s Action Coalition, and Youth Climate Intervenors.
